Modernization of the Higher Banking School of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation Barnaul, Altai Territory

The building of the Higher Banking School was constructed in the period between the 19th and the 20th centuries (former residence of merchants S. Yakovlev and V. Polyakov). It is one of the best Modern-style buildings in Barnaul dating to the beginning of the 20th century and is protected by the state as an architectural monument of republican importance. The facades of the building are richly decorated.

The successful construction and restoration of the Barnaul Banking School has been rewarded with a Diploma of the Demidov Foundation.

The unsatisfactory condition of the building made restoration necessary. During the years of operation, the wooden floors have weakened, walls have cracked because of irregular settling of the building, and the decoration of the facades has been badly damaged. The walls of the building have become damp because of a broken waterproofing system.

The project provided for restoration of the original facades of the building, reconstruction of the broken decoration details, replacement of floors, and modernization of roofing. In order to prevent underflooding of the building caused by ground water, lowering of the ground level around the building and reconstruction of the waterproofing of the walls and floor at the ground floor level were planned.
